Summer is here and with it comes a season of new releases, some which look to have an appeal which goes far beyond the autumn. Let’s take a look and see what you can get your hands on in the States and what games are worth investing in this summer.
For newcomers here is a very brief introduction to the Playstation Network. It’s your place to find the latest releases without having to leave your couch. The Playstation Network also is used by the Playstaion Portable. However, the list to content available on the Network goes far beyond games and here is some of the features you can avail of currently:
• Games
• Demos
• Comics
• Movies and Trailers
• Expansion Packs
• Themes
• Latest News
• Additional Content
• Multiplayer
• Competitions
Plenty here to keep you busy. The network is completely free to register and Sony has promised it will remain that way but naturally, some of the content costs money. This would be things like full games and movies and maybe some expansion packs. You can use Playstation Network Cards to buy your content in the store and gives people without any credit cards the chance to avail of all the features available. The network offers deals for reduced offers so keep your eyes peeled for those. Currently there are over 40 million users registered worldwide.
This summer sees the introduction of a new type of racer which is set to become the next MarioKart. ModNation Racers is a great creative go kart racer which gives players the opportunity to customize tracks, cars and characters and share with others all over the world. Already there is competitions being organised on the Network and it looks set to put a few smiles on gamers’ faces this summer.
The Network also has internet access, giving users the ability to access Facebook and Netflix for watching streaming movies and TV shows. In North America since August 2008, there is now also an up to date news channel. The Qore network and keeps players posted about upcoming releases and developments in the world of gaming. This service is subscription based. You can also avail of the use of gaming profiles, find your friends online by searching for their profiles and connect with them for some multiplayer messing and also to beat them and laugh when you do. Especially good when you have a grudge to settle.
Additionally, a great new feature was launched a while back which will put a huge smile on veteran gamer’s faces. Remember how annoyed you were when you found out you couldn’t play all your old games on your new console? Well, Sony have launched a PS1 Emulator, which means you can play all the classics on your shiny new PS3. This is currently available on the Playstation Network, although at a charge. However, the good news is the list of games available is substantial and has something for everyone.
Don’t worry about getting snowed in, not that it happens in North America in the summer. If it does happen, the best way to flick on your PS3 and Sony will keep you entertained.
